PROBLEM STATEMENT

  • It is unknown to most that actually some causes due to the fact that e-Waste contains numerous metals and toxins (such as mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and flame retardants). These toxins will being inerasable damage to grown-ups let alone babies or infants! Parents that consume it will ultimately contribute to the defects of the next generation.
  • Communities around unregulated e-waste recycling areas and e-waste employees report increased instances of DNA damage, altered neuro-development, spontaneous abortions, premature babies, skin diseases, hearing loss, dizziness, shortness of breath and male reproductive and genital disorders.
  • In Malaysia, approximately 365 kilotonnes of e-waste are generated annually, surpassing the height of the Petronas Twin Towers. Despite past mitigation initiatives, only 5% of e- waste is disposed of properly, highlighting the need for improved management and public awareness. What’s more, despite representing just a small percentage of household waste, e-waste also accounts for 70% of toxic heavy metal pollution in the environment.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

  1. To highlight the importance to safely disposes e-waste to our community in the long run.
  2. To connect with social enterprises to promote awareness as well as their services on e-waste.
  3. To bring attention to the local community regarding the opportunity to make profit from selling e-waste.
  4. To create an allocated safe space for the community to properly dispose of their e-waste appropriately.
